About Dr. Anna Marion Bieri
I bring 20+ years of international experience in law and intellectual property law from a combined career in industry and academia. I earned an LL.B. (hons) from the University of Durham, UK, an LL.M. from the Munich Intellectual Property Law Center (which is jointly run by the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property and Competition Law, the George Washington University Law School, the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the University of Augsburg) and a Ph.D. (summa cum laude) from the University of Bayreuth, Germany.
I initially worked in banking for UBS and Credit Suisse in Switzerland and in consulting in Germany. Later, I was an Assistant Professor of Practice and the Founding Director of the forward-looking Science, Technology and Law program at Virginia Tech. There, I also served as an Advisor to the Executive Director of the Virginia Bioinformatics Institute and as an Advisor to the Vice President for Research and Innovation.
It is during this time that I became passionate about working with faculty and student creators and inventors and enjoyed sharing my expertise to advance academic research into real world application.
I continue my practice as a partner at Bieri IP GmbH, a consulting firm I co-founded with my father Dr. Stephan Bieri.
My book, Patents and Professors: The Interdependence between Patent Law, Science, and Research Universities in the USA, was published by Mohr Siebeck in July 2022. For more information please click here.
